Great tent!! Very warm, for what it looks like. Used it in mountains in Idaho this last week. Worth every dollar I spent on it!! Thanks for the great tent!!
Thank you very much for your review. We are pleased to hear your Chinook 2P tent worked well for you.
The lightness and compact design make this a great concept. I can see that in drier areas the tent would be exceptional. and for backpacking the lack of bulk and weight make this a good two person set up. I have decided not to keep my tent as the door vestibules when opened allow water to drip into the doors your sleeping bag will soon be damp. I would suggest a slight modification of the door openings or the spread of the cross pole to give more coverage of the door openings for weather protection of the inside of the tent. Thanks for your good service Tim Norman
Thank you for your review and comments. Big Sky's tents are designed so the doors can be unzipped to open very wide when wanted or the doors can be partially zipped to keep the rain out.
Overall, I hate to say it, but I was very disappointed. I was looking for a tent to take mountain hunting in northern BC, and after much research, I ordered the Chinook 2p tent. After receiving it, I set it up in the basement. Setup was extremely fast and simple, craftsmanship was impeccable. It was everything I was looking for. A shelter that was four season, wind worthy, and extremely light. Unfortunately I had to send it back because the vestibules just weren't big enough for me to keep pack, boots and rifle dry, and still get in and out. A month later I'm still wishing it would have worked because it is simply an awesome tent! From my experience, customer service was second to none. Return went smoothly, and they even refunded the original shipping cost, which in my opinion is more than they had to do since the return was my fault. If the specs for this tent fit your criteria I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
Thanks for your comments, and we are sorry it did not work out for you.
After a long search for a new light weight(ish) 2 person tent to replace my old, i settled for the BSI chinook 2p. Criteria were: suitable for 4 seasons, able tot set up inner and outer as one, weight not far over 1kg/person, enough room tot sit up inside and good ventilation. The Chinook came out as the best candidate for me. Service so far is excellent. Questions were answerd within a day (after i addressed them to the right e-mail adess that is, one of them does not seem to work) and we received the tent in europe quicker than prommissed. Used the tent for a longer trip and some weekend climbing trips, varying from 25°C to -5°C so far and it performed well. It provides enough space for two plus gear. I love the design and detailing. Providing extra ventilation by tieing up the fly at the bottom is a simple but quite effective solution without adding weight. I expected the tent to be a bit noisy in windy conditions, because of the pole clips instead of sleeves, but the fly is tensioned well, and does not make to much noise. The inner does get quite warm in summery conditions, I guess the mesh inner would be a better choice for that. The guylines i ordered extra seem to be a bit short. This can make it a bit harder to find a suitable place to put a peg down, especially in rocky ground. Also longer guylines are probably a bit more effective in windy conditions. But apart from that I am very pleased with the tent and would recommend it to anyone.
