Revolution 2P

Has all the features and materials and quality of design and sewing I was looking for in a light weight, car camping tent. I would carry on a short back pack trip too. The carry weight measured at home is 4 lbs 3.3 oz. That includes tent fly (which stays connected to the "inner" via toggles), the tent "inner' which in this measurement is the heavier fabric style, BSI poles (2 main and one short top spreader), BSI 2P ground cloth, the BSI 9 pcs tent stake kit with 8 tube stakes, extra cordage provided, and the BSI bags for poles, stakes, and tent. BSI has good numbers for hydrostatic and will come back and update after sleeping in a rain, if that happens. The materials are Fly 15D SilNy 2000mm, Floor 15D Sil PUNy 3000mm, UL DAC NFL poles 8.7mm and through a fluke in their inventory was able to order both the Fabric Inner and the Mesh Inner. I like the 2 vents in the top of fly, the zippers and sewing are well done. I will have to be careful with the zipper in the vestibules to avoid catching the zipper cover in the zipper but it's not as bad as the Copper Spur. Definitely a light weight tent and will add lines if it's going to be windy. A good review on YT recommends wrapping the guys around the exterior poles a couple of times. Feels roomy inside for 1 or 2 people. Especially roomy for 1. The webpage is glitchy, the lack of inventory might frustrate some, and the descriptions can be confusing but, all in all, worked everything out with customer service and happy to have this tent. Customer service was quick to respond. All positive in the end. The pictures show some discoloration of the fabric inner but not to worry, it's just cosmetic seconds I was aware of. Notice the small mesh zippered panel in the upper third of the door. If BSI would ever come out with a full door zippered mesh, I would jump in line to buy. The Mesh version of Inner tent is not shown in the pictures. When I receive it, will try to update.

The Rolls Royce of ultralight tents

I like this tent so much that I went to sleep in the mountains almost every night since I received it, 3 weeks ago.
It sets up and packs very easily. Since the inner wall is attached to the outer wall, it doesn’t get wet when you set up your tent under the rain.
Plenty of room inside (for me alone), good space above the head, large pockets, big windows, good zippers. I had plenty of snow and strong wind but felt very secure inside. Compared to it, my Nemo Hornet Elite looks and feels like a toy.
Everything in the Big Sky Revolution 2P (the design, the structure, the material, the details) is simple, elegant and of excellent quality. I am looking forward to buying the DCF version when it is available (please put me on the waiting list !).

Big sky Revolution 2p tent

The material is excellent! I hv got 16 tents and found that this one is the lightest but with strong strength against the weather. It is easy and fast to setup under rain without making the inner part wet. The footprint can always attach so the tent floor is full time under protected. One only minor thing is the hook of the footprint is not locked so it is a bit easy to come off. But anyway I have replaced them with my own key rings to prevent it. It is a nice tent and I will test more under the harsh weather for its durability.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Is ist possible to use the tent without the small pole for the porch, so just with 2 poles ? So that i can choose to go on trip with 2 or 3 poles

It is possible to setup the Revolution 2P tent and use only 2 long poles and not the short 3rd Porch pole, but there would we some lose outer fabric that blow in the wind and there would not be as much headroom and sagging fabric inside since there would be no 3rd Porch pole to hold it up.

  • Hi. I wonder why you do not give clear info about water poles. And what they are. I saw that you already wrote 2000 in one answer but I found 1500 at a resellers webpage. Could you garantee that its at least 2000? How did you test that?

We assume you are referring to fabric we use in a Big Sky tent's outer/fly... at one time Big Sky's waterproof rating was 1,500mm, but a few years again we raised it to 2,000mm because our hydrostatic testing showed Big Sky's fabric for the past few years has been over 2,000mm. We own a hydrostatic tester and test each shipment of fabric we receive. For more info: https://bigskyinternational.com/pages/fabric-comparison-table

  • What is the difference (weight, folded size, material, etc...) between the bikepacking poles and the DAC UL poles?

    pole options:
Ultra Light poles: lighter weight, 43cm folding length, and more expensive
Bikepacking poles: shorter 30cm folding length, a little heavier, and less expensive

Both are made of aluminum and have a similar strength

  • Hello Big Sky, I was wondering if the Revolution 2p can be pitched as inner only. Thanks!

If you want to pitch inner only, Evolution tent series is a better choice..

Revolution tent series is better for pitching outer only

  • Two question about fabric version of the *inner* tent: - is the door fully mesh all of its size or only partially? - is the inner tent door two layered, one is mesh and the other is fabric? Question of the outer tent: - if the outer tent doors are fully open, does the rain reach inner tent? My use case: in hot but unstable weather keep the outer tent doors fully open all of the time. I keep the inner tent door closed with full size mesh only (keep the bugs out and get the view). When it gets colder, cover the inner tent mesh with fabric, partially or fully, still keeping the outer tent doors open. In the even colder or stormy weather, finally close the outer tent.

Two question about fabric version of the *inner* tent:
    - is the door fully mesh all of its size or only partially?
    > The Mesh Netting version is entirely Mesh Netting
    - is the inner tent door two layered, one is mesh and the other is fabric?
    > There are two completely different inners. The Breathable Fabric version is Breathable fabric with "Mesh Netting" window in door. There is a "Breathable Fabric" fabric door that can be zippered over the "Mesh Netting" window.

    Question of the outer tent:
    - if the outer tent doors are fully open, does the rain reach inner tent?
    > Straight down rain will not enter inner... there is a 3rd pole that create a little "Porch" over each door.

    Thank you for your interest

  • What is the pack size

    What is the pack size
    > The folded length of the Revolution 2P tent poles is 43cm (17in) and diameter of the compression sack is about 15cm (6in)

  • Hello! I’m looking for a durable lightweight tent for my PCT hike attempt in 2019, and this tent looks like it will fit the bill. However, I prefer a smaller footprint for ease of finding camp spots along the trail. Do you have a one person version of this tent? If yes, what are the specs? Does it have two doors as well? Is one door an option for the one person tent? Does the purchase come with guy lines and stakes? Do you have a Cuben Fiber version of this tent? Do you have a set up video of this tent? Thank you very much for your time.

Do you have a one person version of this tent?
    > Yes, Big Sky makes a Revolution 1P tent

If yes, what are the specs?
    > Here is more info for the Revolution 1P tent:
    https://bigskyinternational.com/products/big-sky-revolution-1p-tent

Does it have two doors as well?
    > Yes, the Revolution 1P has two doors
Is one door an option for the one person tent?
    > No, we did at one time, but everyone prefers two doors so we stopped making one door option

Does the purchase come with guy lines and stakes?
    > guy lines and stakes/pegs are optional.. you do not have to buy them unless you need them

Do you have a Cuben Fiber version of this tent?
    > There will be a DCF (Cuben) fabric version the Revolution 1.5P available soon.

Do you have a set up video of this tent?
    > Hopefully soon

  • Hello, Thank you immediately answer. So it will be helpful. I think that REVOLUTION 2P tent (BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER) fulfills the conditions I'm seeing quite well. Please tell me a bit more. ①Is BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER the same material or making CHINOOK INNER ? ②Please tell me the difference between REVOLUTION 2P tent (BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER) and CHINOOK 2P tent.; Material, performance, durability, wind resistance, etc. Best regards, ERIKO NAITO

    ERIKO NAITO,
    Please see > responses below:
①Is BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER the same material or making CHINOOK INNER ?
    > yes, the Breathable Fabric for Big Sky's Revolution and Chinook tent series inners is the same fabric.
②Please tell me the difference between REVOLUTION 2P tent (BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER)  and CHINOOK 2P tent.; Material, performance, durability, wind resistance, etc.
    > Big Sky's Revolution tent series are 3-seasons rated tents made with lighter weight 3-seasons rated poles, while the Chinook tent series are 4-seasons rated tents with stronger 4-seasons rated tent poles. Inner floor sizes are the same.
    Thanks for your interest,
    Big Sky International

  • Hi,My Name is ERIKO NAITO in JAPAN. I am Interested in the tent of the REVOLUTION 2P(BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER) . So,Please tell the outer sell, the inner liner,Floor material and the water column. Because,Japan has a lot of rain,it is an important element when choosing a tent. ①all outer sell→・material: ・water column: ②Inner Liner、Floor(BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER)→・material: ・water column:・Weight(kg)/Mosquito net in Entrance covered? Best regards.

ERIKO NAITO in JAPAN, thank you for your questions, please see > responses below:
I am interested in Big Sky's REVOLUTION 2P tent (BREATHABLE FABRIC INNER) water column/hydrostatic fabric rating:
    > Outer fabric: 2000mm rated
    > Breathable Fabric inner: DWR treated to repel water
    > Floor fabric: 3000mm rated
Because,Japan has a lot of rain, it is an important element when choosing a tent.
    > Big Sky tents have been sold/tested/used all over the world for many years... rain is no problem for Big Sky's tents.
    Mosquito net in Entrance  covered?
    > Yes, the entrance of Big Sky's Revolution 2P tent has a "Porch" over each door so rain will not drip inside.
    Thank you for your interest,
    Big Sky International

  • Hello Bigsky, can I use Revolution 2p on snow storm weather ( strong wind and heavy snowfall in Japan alps)?

Can I use Revolution 2p on snow storm weather ( strong wind and heavy snowfall in Japan alps)?

    > Big Sky's Revolution 2P tent is 3-seasons rated meaning it is not rated for winter conditions with heavy snow and strong winds that may cause the vestibules to collapse and/or the poles to break..

  • Hi, Is this tent able to be pitched as a shelter with the fly only (no inner)?

Yes, the Revolution tent series is great for pitching outer only...

If inner is removed you will need either a footprint or X-cords to hold the shape of the poles.

  • Can you tell me the fabric weight of the fly and floor and also the essential differences between this tent and the Chinook?

Can you tell me the fabric weight of the fly and floor
    > here is some fabric info:
    https://bigskyinternational.com/pages/fabric-comparison-table
also the essential differences between this tent and the Chinook?
    > Big Sky's Revolution tent series are 3-seasons rated tents
    > Big Sky's Chinook tent series are 4-seasons rated tents with a stronger structural design, stronger poles, etc.

  • What is the denier on the fly? What is the denier on the bathtub floor? What is the height of the bathtub floor? Can I pitch the fly first without the inner tent attached inside and than hang the inner tent inside, once the fly is up?

    - What is the denier on the fly?
    > We think what you are asking is how strong is the fabric? Denier size is just one data point... we use both sides silicone coated fabric so our fabrics are 2x stronger than the same fabric that has one side PU coating... so while we use 15D fabric since is both sides silicone it is comparable to other 30D tent fabric with one side PU
    - What is the denier on the bathtub floor? > same answer
    - What is the height of the bathtub floor? > 15cm
    - Can I pitch the fly first without the inner tent attached inside and than hang the inner tent inside, once the fly is up? > yes... if you want to do this, we suggest getting a set of X-cords that can be used to set up outer without inner

  • How much would a set of bike packing poles cost? I have the DAC
